Communications to Build Environmental Change
Project Twin Streams is a nine year, $39m urban sustainability project aimed at revitalising 56 kms of streambanks in the former Waitakere City, now West Auckland. The city is located in New Zealand’s North Island with a population of 160,000.
Funded by regional and central government and delivered by local government in partnership with six community contract organisations, the project has, since it begun in 2003, planted a total of 589,000 trees, engaged 120 community groups and over 10,000 volunteers. Its community development approach to large-scale restoration makes it unique in New Zealand.
Atlas have, since 2006, managed both the planning and execution of:
- Strategic integrated communications plan.
- The development of a family of brands for the community component of the partnership.
- Co-creating a new branding identify for each of the community contract partners.
- Creating a comprehensive digital communications strategy, including the creation of a new project website and team intranet.
- All media relations and publicity.
- Stakeholder communications and events.
The project has received a number of international and national environmental awards.
Atlas Communications were finalists in the 2008 Public Relations Institute of New Zealand awards for our work on this project.
